San Diego, CA, April 7, 2004 -- RD Instruments, the San Diego-based manufacturer of Doppler based acoustic products, recently achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification as part of its strategy for the continuous improvement of its industry-leading products.

The benefits are more than just abstract: "ISO certification has helped us improve the quality of our product in very measurable ways," said Javier Costas, the quality assurance manager at RD Instruments. "After ISO implementation, for example, our warranty spending was reduced by 33-percent. That's a significant reduction and it's because of the ISO process."

Process is what ISO 9001:2000 is all about. RD Instruments already had an ISO 9001:1994 certification that focused on the functional aspects of manufacturing. The ISO 9001:2001 standard, however, encompasses not only functions, but total performance as well. This means the management structure is incorporated into the quality-assurance loop.

"Everything a company does can affect the end product," Costas said. "So now we have feedback loops for things like customer service and management. It really helps us gauge the effectiveness of the solutions we implement. Constant evolution is the key to what we do."
