Overview:

On April 4-6, 2005, Teledyne RD Instruments hosted its 4th ADCPs in Action Users Conference in beautiful San Diego, CA.

This year’s conference drew over 160 Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCPs) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) users from the commercial, academic and government market sectors.

ADCP and DVL topics were presented by over 40 industry experts.

In keeping with the ADCPs in Action model, two full days of speaker sessions and product training were combined with some new sessions including round-table discussions, customer focus groups, and data analysis clinics. This year’s ADCPs in Action attracted over 40 industry speakers, 15 co-sponsors, and several poster papers.

The event was divided into three concurrent tracks delineated by RDI’s business units:

  • Water Resources: inland flow measurement applications;

  • Marine Measurements: coastal and oceanographic current profiling and wave measurement applications

  • Navigation: Doppler velocity log applications

On the Friday prior to ADCPs in Action, RADM Richard West, President of CORE (Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education) visited RDI’s facility and gave a presentation detailing CORE’s recent activities and the status of government funding for oceanographic initiatives. Teledyne RDI is very proud to be the first commercial company to gain acceptance to the CORE organization. For more information on CORE, visit www.coreocean.org.

On Monday morning, keynote speaker, Captain Craig N. McLean, NOAA Executive Officer, National Ocean Service kicked off ADCPs in Action with a highly informative overview of the history and future goals and objectives of NOAA. Captain McLean also congratulated those in attendance for their contributions to science, and highlighted the role that our industry can play in driving oceanographic initiatives forward.
